Pegasus is a specific type of spyware that can track calls, read text messages and steal data from devices, as well as implement key loggers and audio capture tools. Its design is commonly attributed to the Israeli cybersecurity firm NSO Group, and surfaced in 2016.
The
vehicle of Pegasus is a social engineering scheme known as phishing where the
attacker sends a link. When a user clicks on the link, that is used to bring in
the Trojan malware with 30-day exploits. The NSO Group is now embroiled in
various legal challenges related to Pegasus.
Pegasus
remains a prime example of how phishing practices introduce malware to devices
and networks.
