JBoss Application Server (JBoss AS)

JBoss Application Server (JBoss AS) is an open-source, cross-platform Java application server developed by JBoss, a division of Red Hat Inc. JBoss AS is an open-source implementation of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) that is used for implementing Java applications and other Web-based applications and software.

JBoss AS is released through Lesser General Public License. The JBoss.org community provides free support for this application server.

JBoss AS 4.0 runs on Java Virtual Machine (JVM) versions 1.4-1.6 and is a Java EE 1.4 application server with a built-in Apache Tomcat 5.5 servlet shell.

JBoss also supports many operating systems, including Portable Operating System Interface for Unix (POSIX) platforms, GNU/Linux, Free Berkeley Software Distribution (FreeBSD), Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, and other JVM-compliant machines.

Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 3.0 is applied by default and requires Java Development Kit (JDK) version 5.
