National Cyber Security Division (NCSD)

The National Cyber Security Division (NCSD) is a division within the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Directorate for National Protection and Programs’ Office of Cyber Security & Communications. The NCSD was formally opened on June 6, 2003. Its main mission is to collaborate with the military, government, private sector, and other intelligence stakeholders in conducting risk assessments, countering threats and mitigating vulnerabilities in IT assets. NCSD is also involved in activities that affect government and civilian-owned critical cyber-infrastructure operations.

The National Cyber Security Division was founded around two strategic objectives:

• To create and maintain a highly effective national system for cyberspace response.
• To implement management programs to protect critical IT or cyber infrastructure.
