LTE Advanced and WiMAX Release 2 will be the first real 4G networks. Codenamed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as the LTE Rel 10, it offers three times more spectrum efficiency than LTE. Its maximum spectrum efficiency is estimated to be 15 bps per Hz (upload speed) and 30 bps per Hz (download speed). Although it has the same mobility features as LTE, LTE Advanced has two times the cell edge user throughput. It also adapts well to several network loads and can collect up to five carriers. This means LTE Advanced can allocate resources when the network gets busy, which translates to faster data rates.
