Trusted Computing Group (TCG)

The Trusted Computing Group (TCG) is an international industry standardization group, a consortium initiative started by leaders in the computing industry in order to draft standards and implement Trusted Computing, which aims to resolve security problems through hardware and software enhancements and modification.

TCG was the successor to the Trusted Computing Platform Appliance (TCPA) and was founded in 2003 by industry leaders, including:

• AMD
• Cisco
• HP
• Intel
• IBM
• Microsoft
• Wave Systems Corp.

Its original goal included the development of a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which is an electronics module or an integrated circuit that can be included in computer systems to enable trusted computing features that are standardized by the group.

The TCG is a non-profit organization, a work group composed of representatives from various companies in the industry. TCG drafts and publicizes specifications and examples in the use of TCG-related technology. In this group experts from different technology categories work together to develop the specifications in a neutral environment, and competitors can collaborate to develop interoperable and vendor-neutral technology.
