A quality of storage service (QoSS) is a service that is geared toward accommodating disk storage by optimizing a storage system. The quality of storage service may involve using algorithms to direct memory and disk write operations, or efforts to prioritize I/O for bottlenecks. Some tiered storage systems can also constitute a quality of storage service.
A quality of storage service may also involve caching strategies, as
well as automated transfer of data between different media. Some tiered
systems can transfer data between mechanical disk and RAID systems.
Systems may contemplate the movement of data through solid state drives,
or to and from tape media in some older systems. In newer systems,
logical unit numbers or LUNs may be used to identify system elements for
quality of storage solutions.
