Directory Client Agent (DCA)

A directory client agent (DCA) is type of software agent that accesses a directory on behalf of the client device or software within an X.500 communication network or environment. It is used in the X.500 messaging system to communicate client queries with the directory or the client server agent.

A directory client agent is primarily used in client server environments to connect and communicate with the directory server. The DCA serves as an intermediate client between the client device and the directory server agent. Typically, the DCA connects the client device with the X.500 directory for receiving and managing directory data and services. It helps in establishing connections and authenticating and logging client devices into the directory services, directory services server or directory server agent.
